Tropoc at the COP30 international climate conference

As a subsidiary of the Fuchs Gruppe, Tropoc presented itself at the 30th UN Climate Change Conference in Belém, Brazil, thereby underscoring its goal of positioning measurable environmental performance internationally. During the conference, Tropoc presented its comprehensive contribution to climate-relevant and biodiversity-promoting cultivation systems. Particular emphasis was placed on the innovative pepper cultivation model, which relies on the use of native tree species as living support plants, thus avoiding the felling of trees. Wooden stakes have a carbon intensity that is around 14% higher than that of the support plant Gliricídia. With the increasing introduction of the Gliricídia system, CO₂ emissions are expected to be reduced by up to 96% by 2040.

The Tropoc and the Fuchs Gruppe exhibition stand attracted farmers from the most important pepper-growing regions. They took part in expert panels, learned about new low-carbon technologies, and exchanged best practices along the entire value chain. In cooperation with Embrapa and Emater, Tropoc also offered technical advice and promoted dialogue with various stakeholders. This exchange strengthened relationships and increased the reach of the company’s socio-ecological programs. For many farmers and other stakeholders, this was the first opportunity to learn about Tropoc’s specific developments on site and to further build trust in the partnership.

For Tropoc, the end of the climate conference marks the beginning of a new operational phase. The insights gained from discussions with participants and visitors form the basis for the expansion of practice-oriented extension programmes, which will be implemented in future in collaboration with Embrapa and Emater and aim to achieve completely sustainable black pepper production.

Tropoc and the Fuchs Gruppe conclude their participation in the climate conference with a clear commitment: to develop credible climate strategies, strengthen transparent partnerships and consistently advance innovation-driven, sustainable value creation.

Successful calculation of CO₂ footprint

At the same time, Tropoc – in cooperation with Embrapa and Emater – successfully completed the calculation of Scope 3 emissions in the agricultural phase. The study compared living support plants with conventional wooden supports and provides a robust data basis for sustainable investment and production decisions. For industrial processing, Tropoc also presented the results of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, which were certified with the Gold Standard by Fundação Getúlio Vargas under the GHG Protocol.

In addition, the company presented a comparison between its own emissions and CO₂ sequestration in its own regenerative forest system. This climate impact statement was certified by Geocarbo, Imaflora and Instituto Véritas, ensuring full transparency and verification of the data.
